Named after Baba Vanga - Grandmother Vanga - one of the most cryptic women in the newer Bulgarian history, this piece confirms the arcane nature of the entire “Dreams and Nightmares” series. Baba Vanga was a renowned clairvoyant mystic and herbalist in the Balkans, who lived in the mountains of Bulgaria for the better part of her life. She was blind but could see beyond the present, while many claim she had foreseen various major events in the world.
The print combines the black and white colour, accentuating it with pure red, while the focus is on the abstracted face. An homage to the mysterious figure, this work connects the symbolism of folk traditions of the world with a universal need to explain the inexplicable.
